Before we get to Christmas—the bad sweater parties, white elephant gifts, egg nog, and of course the end-of-year fundraising push, don’t forget the mid-year evaluation! Take some time during Finals week and make a few course corrections. I highly recommend sitting down with your team (perhaps a mixture of staff, key student leaders, and volunteers) and working through some (or all) of the following 20 questions:
- What’s working? And do you know why it is working?
- What’s not working? And do you know why it isn’t working?
- Where do you need to work harder, and where do you need to work smarter?
- What are you celebrating? And are you celebrating it, or just moving on to the next thing?
- What are you looking forward to doing again next semester/year? What are you never doing again—ever?
- Who are you praising God for? Have you communicated your gratitude to them?
- If you could wave a magic wand over your ministry, what would you do? Why?
- How are your teammates doing? Who needs some TLC or help? What are you doing for them?
- What changes do you need to make for this coming semester? What changes need to wait until summer?
- How’s your financial support/funding? What’s your plan to address that over break?
- What 2-3 things are you recruiting to for next semester? What are your goals, and how is it going?
- If you could add one person to your team, who would they be and what would they do?
- How is your ministry contributing to the “peace and prosperity” of your campus? (Jer. 29:4-14)
- How is your ministry helping fulfill the Great Commission on your campus? (Matt. 28:18-20)
- What are your top 4-5 metric indicators of success, and how are you doing at meeting them?
- As a leader, what is your greatest contribution to your team, and how are you maximizing that? What is your greatest weakness, and how are you minimizing that?
- What do you need to start saying yes to next semester? What do you need to say no to?
- How are you planning on resting and recharging during break? During next semester?
- What happened this semester that can only be explained by God’s work?
- What are you asking God to do in and through your ministry next semester?
